Fluid Bed Dryers: Pharmaceutical
Fluid bed drying is suited for powders, granules, agglomerates and pellets. They can be batch or continuous depending on the users requirments. The material to be dried is placed on a perforated screen, and air is blown through the screen at sufficient speed until the resulting pressure drop across the bed matches the total product weight. At this point the bed starts to fluidize and flow. Produt is dried from all sides, creating a more uniform moisture distrubtion, reducing the thickness of the vapor boundary layer around the product, and reducing drying time. Manufacturers of fluid bed dryers include GEA Aeromatic, Glatt, Mitchell, Sulzer and Ventilex.
