Rotary Vacuum Filters
Rotary vacuum filters consist of a horizontal drum which is partically submerged in a trough of liquor which rotates slowly. The surface of the drum is constructed of a metalic screen which is covered with a filter medium and it acts as the filtration surface. Vacuum is applied to the interior of the drum and filtration takes place under a constant pressure drop. As the drum rotates a cake of particles from on the filter surface, while the filtrate is collected inside the filter, from where is is removed by a special pump. The cake is removed contiuously from the filter surface via a scrapper or knife. Manufacturers of rotary vacuum filters include Eimco, Buss, Filtration Services, Larox etc
