Dapfne S.A., Spain
Case Study

Dapfne S.A were a manufacturer of pigments, herbicides and plastics. Their parent company Otsuka Chemical Co Ltd of Japan, decided to close the Dapfine plant in Monzon, Spain, in 2002 and dispose of the facilities assets.
The plant contained a number of high value items of equipment that were only installed in 1998. This included a large Jet Mill Plant, Ultra lines and other items of equipment. 3Di were made aware of the closure through a contact in Spain and made the trip to inspect the equipment available.
Following inspection of the equipment and discussions with the personnel at Dapfne, 3Di made an on outright purchase offer, on 75% of the equipment at the facility, which was immediately accepted.
This project involved a great deal of preparation; 3Di were responsible for dismantling, rigging and removal of the equipment. Through years of dealings in Spain, 3Di managed to instruct a specialist dismantling team to carry out the works with 3Di operatives overseeing the work.
During the dismantling stages 3Di managed to find a prospective buyer in China for the one of the large items of equipment which was purchased. This item was subsequently removed and shipped to China within weeks of the official order. The remainder of the items purchased were removed and safely shipped back to the UK, and placed into storage.
