Ploughshare mixers are similar to paddle blade mixers and they are used for the mixing of powders, granules, pastes and slurries in various processing industries.
Ploughshare mixers consist of a horizontal cylindrical chamber in which a central shaft with plough type blades are attached. The main shaft is driven by a motor which rotates the shaft and blades inside the chamber. Side choppers or refiners can be added to the side of the chamber to add to the mixing. The chamber can also be jacketed for heating or cooling and can operate under vacuum if required. Ploughshare mixers can operate on a batch or continuous process depending on the requirements of the process.
Manufacturers include Morton, Winkworth, KEK Gardner, Lodige, Littleford Day and many more.
