Filter Press

A filter press is batch operated filter in which liquor is filtered through the surface of plates under pressure forming a cake within the supporting frames. The filtrate is collected through special piping and the cake is discharged when the operation is stopped for cleaning.

Filter presses are often described according to their plate design. The three types of filter press currently available are the plate and frame, recessed or chamber plate and membrane plate. The plates can be constructed from steel, stainless steel and polypropylene.
